“WHAT AM I DOING here again?” I whispered to myself as I opened the
door to my fashion store, letting the smell of new clothes and leather hit my
nose. I flipped on the different light switches, colors dazzling to life before
my eyes. I couldn’t help but smile, then. This was why I was here. Racks
upon racks of my creations. My designs, all carefully assembled, pressed,
and displayed. Opening up my fashion store took guts, and I was proud of
it. I smiled still as I lit a candle, turned on the computer that served as a
cash, and headed to the back to make coffee.

My smile wavered a bit as I crossed my office and spotted the pile of
bills. With a deep breath, I fought against the anxiety clutching my stomach.
“Today will be different,” I whispered, ignoring the nagging voice at the
back of my head that this was my usual mantra, which amounted to no
greater sales most days.

The coffee bubbled to life, all my attention focused on the lifesaving
brew. I had always been a fan of fashion. It had been my dream as a child
and here I was, in my late thirties, doing what I loved best, a store owner

selling her own designs. Not an easy feat in such a small town, but I kept
my hopes up each day, praying that one day, I would break through.
Almost a year in, I was drowning in debt and had no idea how I was
going to pay the bills.

“Hey, let’s go check out the movie sets!” I heard someone scream out in
front of my glass windows. A movie was going to be shot in town and some
Hollywood big shots were going to make an appearance. It was great news
for the town, which never saw the spotlight of anything.

But that wouldn’t exactly get the chores done. Looking sadly at my
empty coffee cup, I headed to the back to do a bit of inventory. Maybe I’d
try switching out the front display window to see if that got more attention.
“Hello, anyone here?” a voice asked just as I ducked in the back.
“How can I help you?” I said with a huge smile, trying to conceal my
surprise at the hunk of a man standing in my shop. His sandy colored hair
and brown eyes mesmerized me.
