LIA EARHART STRIKES AGAIN
The very last sight I ever thought I would cruelly be forced to witness
was what faced me now. What was his past now became my painful
present, as across the room there he was.
There was my Chosen One.
There was my Vampire King.
And he was kissing someone else.

The moment I saw this, two things happened simultaneously, the first was
that it felt like my heart had just been shattered into a million pieces. And the
second was when I turned quickly, only to bang my tray into a marble bust of
none other than the image of my father. Thankfully it only wobbled slightly.
However, what drew everyone’s attention to me was the echoing sound of the
single glass falling from my tray and shattering on the floor. It was one that
someone must have placed on my tray when I had been transfixed for a
moment on the sight of Lucius kissing another woman. But for seconds I
couldn’t help but stare at all that glittering glass in pieces on the floor, feeling
that the symbolic sight now mirrored that of my heart.

I managed to keep hold of the tray at least, but party goers gave me a
wide berth and scowled at me as if what I had done had been a crime. I don’t
know why, but I quickly looked back at Lucius, and the horror of what I had
just done by drawing attention to myself must have played on my face. He
found me in the sea of people, lifting his head up from where he’d been
kissing the mystery woman’s neck.

His gaze seemed to burn into mine and soon I saw that questioning frown
frame steel blue eyes, making me instantly internally panic. I also knew that,
most likely, over fifty percent of the guests in this room could hear my erratic
heartbeat. It was the one good thing in my favour as that was a natural
reaction after just dropping a wine glass and smashing it.

However, what no one knew was that the heart hammering in my chest
was not down to broken glass at all, but from seeing my husband with his
arms around another woman. Of course, no matter how much I tried to
rationalize this as not being a betrayal, especially, considering Lucius didn’t
even know I existed (and technically, I didn’t in this time), it didn’t mean my
heart survived the sight without taking a hit.

The last I saw of Lucius was him whispering something in the woman’s
ear, making me turn away quickly before I found myself faced with who
looked like the butler furiously scowling down at me. He was an older man,
with a mostly bald head, beady brown eyes made even smaller due to
frowning, thin lips and a beak like nose giving him an air of arrogance.
Naturally, he was dressed immaculately, in a black suit with tales at the back
of his double-breasted jacket.
