Three years later
Hunter took his glasses off and placed them on the dash. He pinched the
bridge of his nose and tried to ignore the sound of the music from the car
radio so he could focus on the case files in front of him, but to no avail.
He needed to get these last few things done so he could focus on the road
trip and time with his husband, but the damn country music station was
getting on his last nerve. He was looking forward to the break with Gavin.
But what he wasn’t looking forward to was the week-long road trip and
overnight stays in barely sanitary motels.
“Honey, please, can we turn down the racket? I need to finish one last
thing, and then I can focus on you and me for the next few weeks,” Hunter
finally gave in and asked his husband.
Gavin’s blue eyes sparkled behind his wire-rimmed sunglasses and a
laugh bubbled up from his chest as he reached across to turn down the radio.
“You’re gonna have to get used to that ‘racket’, handsome. We’re
heading to a ranch. With honest-to-goodness cowboys. It’s their lifeblood.”
The mirth in his voice was clear and Hunter had to suppress the shudder at
the thought of listening to country music non-stop for the duration of their
vacation. According to the brochures, it was practically a five-star resort with
all the best amenities, including a sex dungeon that rivalled the ones in their
local club, so he was sure his contact with cowboys would at least be slightly
limited.
When a tip they had on one of their cases led Hunter to Rawhide Ranch,
he couldn’t believe his luck. They had been talking about finding some place
remote and kinky to take a much-needed vacation. And even though the lead
into the missing board member didn’t pan out, he knew the Ranch would be
the perfect getaway for them.
