Do you have to go?”
I shove my legs into my jeans and pull the denim up over my
hips. Heather, on the other hand, stretches out on the bed, with her
hair splayed over the pillow, and her engagement ring winks at me in the
minimal light.
“You know I’ve got club business to deal with today,” I remind her.
We’ve been together for a while now, having met at the homeless shelter
she works at, the same one Satan’s Legacy MC provides security for. It took
a while for me to ask her out, but after my brothers started dropping like flies
into the relationship pool, I realized I wanted what they had. Heather and I
have been together ever since.
I reach into my dresser to pull out a T-shirt and put it on before grabbing
my cut from the hook by the door and slipping my arms into it. Sliding my
cell into the inside pocket, my fingertips brush over something else. I pull it
out and freeze.
My gaze darts to Heather, who’s grinning like the Cheshire Cat, and back
to the little pink and white stick gripped in my hand.
“Seriously?” I ask, my voice cracking a bit.
Heather nods, but when I remain where I’m standing, her face falls.
“You’re not happy.”
I stare at the two pink lines for a moment, trying to decipher the emotions
rolling through me. Am I happy? I take a deep breath. Fuck yes, I’m happy.
I close the distance between us and climb up the bed to hover above her.
“I’m beyond happy, Heather,” I tell her, sincerity bleeding into my words.
“Way beyond happy.”
My lips press against hers and her body immediately arches into mine,
seeking more contact. I swallow her groans as my hand travels down her
cheek, over her collarbone, and farther still to rest over her still-flat stomach.
“How far along are you?” I ask against her lips.
