LUCIAN KANE BLACKCROWN STOOD IN THE CENTER OF HIS DEN, PANIC
stricken, his heart thundering against this chest wall.
How the hell did he get into this situation barely a year after his wedding?
This was to be his honeymoon year. Yet, here he was, wearing red, a
white beard down to the center of his chest, and a fucking pillow under his
clothes.

Santa.
He was asked to be Santa Claus by his brother, for Killian’s son, Everett.
Why?
Why him?
Because he’s the uncle.
Because it’s his duty as the only uncle.
Because apparently he drew the short stick.
He loved his nephew more than anything. He would do anything for him.
Lucian would protect the boy with everything he was and everything he had,
but to play Santa?
Fuck no.

Yet, here he was, standing in the den, drenched in red.
Lucian sighed and crossed the room to sit on the couch. He picked up his
beer and took a drink, licked his lips, then set it back down. He thought back
to the holidays spent at home with his mother before she passed on.
They would decorate the tree, she’d wrap presents, the stockings were
hung, and Christmas morning, he and Killian would rush down and tear into
everything wrapped. He smiled at the memories, his heart painful in the
remembrance.

Then the first holiday once their mother was gone was the beginning of
the end for his family. Killian took so much of the abuse, never leaving
Lucian alone with their father if he could help it. And yet, Lucian turned his
back on his brother to try to prove he could be Alpha.
He shook off the memory of long ago to hold onto what he had now…
love with a partner who accepted him completely. He couldn’t ask for more
than that.

His cell phone buzzed on the side table and he glanced at the screen to see
it was his brother. He picked it up and answered.
“Hey, what’s up?”
“Everett is bouncing off the walls,” Killian told him. “He was fussing
about going to bed tonight for Christmas Eve, so Cordelia told him if he
wasn’t good, Santa wouldn’t come visit him before his bedtime.”
“Oh, great, so now he’s expecting me?” Lucian chuckled into the phone.
“Well, yeah, now he is. You’ll find out soon enough, bartering with kids
gets you further than fighting. Trust me on this. Give a little, take a little.”
Lucian let a soft chortle go. “I’m so not having kids.”

“As if you have a say in the matter.” Killian was quiet for a moment, then
continued. “Don’t take it for granted, brother. Having Everett is the best part
of being married. He’s so much like me, yet he’s feisty, like Cordy. He’s
savage, but soft. He’s ruthless, but fair.”
“So, he’s a Blackcrown, that’s what you’re trying to say?”
Killian laughed. “Yeah, a Golden Blackcrown.”

“We’ll be over soon, but Killian, how’d I let you talk me into this?”
“Umm, if I remember correctly, I didn’t. I asked, you said no. Then Sarah
said you would, and that was that.”
