“Come on, Summer,” Meredith muttered as she hung up on
her best friend’s cheery voicemail. Three times she’d called, and
three times her call had been ignored.
The lighting in her room was all wrong to pick an outfit, but it
was the only one that gave her a full-length view of herself. “Gray
or green,” she mused, holding up an emerald-colored sweater in
one hand, and a gray tank top in the other. The emerald color
matched Tristan’s eyes.
Gray it was.
What did one wear to accidentally run into a man she’d once
boinked in a bathroom? According to Meredith’s find-a-friend app,
Summer was at Ned’s Bar, and it wasn’t a ritzy place. Ned’s was
the type of bar with ten Harleys lined up out front at any given
time, and wooden walls adorned with various stuffed moose and
bobcats. But this was the second Friday night in two weeks that
Summer went to the same bar at the same time and she was betting
it was some kind of meeting. Tristan would probably be there, and
even though he’d gone out of his way to avoid her ever since the
funeral-party, pride encouraged her to at least look nice for the
man.
Gah, what was wrong with her? He had probably thought
about her zero times in the last couple weeks, but her on the other
hand? She couldn’t get her mind off of the geometric pattern tattoo
on his back. It was all Tristan’s fault for getting her addicted to
him. That man was fine. Nash was hot, but Tristan, with his
shoulder-length hair and the physique of a professional lumberjack,
had that dangerously sexy edge she’d never known she craved.
And dangerous was exactly right. She’d heard the growl in his
throat when he’d fucked her in the bathroom of Ned’s bar. Nothing
but desolation and disaster would come of spending time with him.
Did that stop her from thinking about him? Nope. A wise woman
would stay far away from a man like him, but apparently Meredith
wasn’t that wise.
The gray Harley tank top hugged her curves and when she
pulled the faux-leather skirt over her hips, she tried to convince
herself she wasn’t just giving a tempting easy-access to Tristan.
And she definitely hadn’t gone to a Harley Davidson shop
specifically to shop for something he might enjoy seeing her in.
Nope.
Why hadn’t he called or texted her?
Outside, it took a while to get her old Honda Civic warmed
up. If she lived in the city, she wouldn’t have needed a car. But she
had recently chosen to rent a one bedroom in Maplewood where
she and Summer had grown up, and where her parents still lived.
The commute to work was hell, but her hours started earlier in the
morning, so traffic wasn’t too bad.
