“Go away, Abby. Let me sleep.”
“I already let you sleep. It’s time to get up. We’re decorating
Kaitlyn’s Place today. Landon expects everyone to be there to help,
remember?”

I groaned.
For the last three nights I’d barely slept a solid hour. Now when I
finally started to crash, my roommate, Abby, wakes me up. I wasn’t a
murderous person, but I was certainly considering it in that moment.
“Are you okay, Cadence?” she asked sounding worried.
I sighed and sat up.
“I’m fine. I just didn’t sleep well.”
“Again?”

“Don’t overanalyze it. I’m fine.”
Abby was a nurse and trying to discreetly check me out with a critical
eye.
“Abs, I’m fine,” I insisted.
“Well, okay then, get up, and get ready. We’re late.”
Begrudgingly I did as she said, dragging my butt out of bed and into
the shower. I didn’t care how late we were; I was taking that shower.
It should have woken me up some or at least eased some of my
tension, but it did neither. I was beginning to feel like a walking zombie.
We left the small cabin we shared stepping out into the beautiful
forests of British Columbia. Since the first moment I set foot in this territory,
it felt like home.

I breathed in the fresh air and there was a new smell in the area. It
made my mouth water.
“The smells of winter. Christmas! Isn’t it wonderful?” Abby said.
“It really is,” I agreed despite my sour mood.
Together we drove over to the hotel.
Kaitlyn’s Place was an old hotel that was remodeled recently. It had
been open less than a year, but it was doing remarkably well.
Kaitlyn, the owner and manager of the place was our Pack Mother.
She was really the best, too. I couldn’t be prouder to call this Pack my home
now.

Landon, our Alpha, allowed Abby and I stay after we had helped to
heal Kaitlyn. She had been injured in some unsanctioned challenges within
the group of women we inadvertently had found ourselves traveling with. It is
a long story, but in the end, they had both welcomed us into the Pack.
Abby and I hadn’t even known one another when we first arrived and
now we were business partners and as close as sisters.

Thanks to Landon and Kaitlyn’s generosity, Abby and I were given a
series of smaller cabins with a brand-new pavilion and office building to start
our own business right in the middle of Pack territory.
We were shifter exclusive, and we only took patients by word of
mouth, but it was everything neither of us had ever dared to dream possible.
Growing up, I had gifts that weren’t normal. I could heal things,
people, animals, whatever. It scared people, especially my family who made
me hide my gifts and never tell anyone.
It hadn’t been easy to admit to my healing powers when Kaitlyn had
needed them, but it had been the right thing to do. And as scary as it was, I
wouldn’t have the life I do now if I hadn’t taken that leap of faith.
