Vrakius
A vision of beauty greeted me as I stepped into the Marriage Temple. She
literally glowed with her creamy complexion and her eyes peered into mine
as a slight smile stretched across her lovely face. Genetic matching did a
superb job. I walked toward my future, my family, all as the magistrate
rocked on his feet.

A few days ago I received word that the genetic database had found a
match for me. Honestly, I had already figured my life was set as a loner
meant for working the land. We came from Tariat in hopes of living fruitful,
fulfilling lives. Tariat, a small planet in the Procyon System, had grown too
small for the prolific minotaurs. The fact that the males outnumbered the
females three to one also made it necessary to leave in order to find a mate.
Earth held promise as the indigenous beings there needed help after their
near annihilation years before.

There were plenty of human females to
make up for the lack of minotaur females. Not only Tariat, but other planets
and other alien species had come to rescue Earth in their time of need.
By the time I arrived on Earth to settle in a minotaur territory in Alia
Terra, the way was already paved. Animals of close relation to us were the
very things we raised. Bovines walked on four legs and didn’t communicate
as intelligent beings, but were the food for the Earth dwellers. Part of me
winced dearly at this, as the bovines, in particular the bulls, resemble my
kind.

I laughed at the irony of it. The bovines were a hearty race of animals
and provided food which ranked high in the food chain. But to my people, it
was akin to cannibalism to eat the cattle we raised. The remedy was to bring
the boarius from Tariat, and we each had several mating pairs to create our
own food alongside the cattle. It worked, the boarius looking like some
crossbreeding of cattle and pigs. The meat was similar to both beef and
pork, according to the humans.

I watched my friends and kin receive their wives, one after the other.
These beautiful creatures, called humans, fit in with our kind nearly
perfectly. My hopes were dashed every time they ran the database and I
wasn’t called for a match, however. I’d given up and built my own home
with a ranch the way I wanted it.
