LILY
Lily Jorgenson sat on her bed with her face buried in her hands. Her
mind was in a turmoil of emotions. As the eldest daughter of the
alpha of the wolf shifter clan outside of Manitoba, Canada, she had
always done everything in her power to be the dutiful daughter and make her
father proud. Unfortunately, regardless of how hard she tried, whether in
academics, sports, or any other undertaking, he barely noticed that she was
there – unless of course, she made a mistake. Then, her father would come
down on her with all of the force of the angriest wolf and rip her apart,
emotionally and sometimes physically. However, regardless of his brutal
treatment, she adored her father.

That was why she had agreed to marry her father’s second in command.
She really didn’t have a choice, since they had been more or less promised
since she was born, but he still asked her on her sixteenth birthday, if she
would go through the mating ceremony with him after she turned eighteen.
She agreed. Why wouldn’t she? It would please her father. Plus, Damian was
gorgeous and every woman, shifter or mundane, drooled over him. Plus, he
had always treated her with the utmost respect. He was gentle and kind to
her.

However, her attitude changed the night before their mating ceremony
was supposed to take place. She had gone for a run in the woods to clear her
mind. Deep in the woods, near her favorite place to relax, she saw Damian
with another one of the female wolf shifters. Her arms were tied above her
head so that she had to stand on her tippy toes. Damian was circling around
her, with a whip, hitting the poor woman all over her body. As far as Damian
was concerned, there was no place on the woman’s body that was off limits.
Her screaming echoed through the trees and tears poured down the woman’s
face. Damian was laughing maniacally.

Hoping that she hadn’t been noticed, Lily slunk back into the trees,
slowly and silently. When she thought that she was far enough away, she
turned tail and ran. Her heart was racing a million miles an hour and she
thought that it was going to explode. She had a sharp stitch in her side. She
ignored the pain and kept running all the way home.
Lily ran straight to her father, who happened to be in his study.
Paperwork was stacked high on his desk. Hesitantly, she knocked on his
door.
“Father, may I speak to you?” she asked.

“What do you want?” he growled. “Can’t you see that I’m busy?”
Lily was used to him speaking to her that way and didn’t flinch at his
harsh tone.
“I went for a run tonight. Damian was out in the woods with Cherie. She
was tied up so that she was almost dangling from one of the branches of the
tree. Damian was whipping her all over her body,” Lily said, a sob catching
in her throat.
“So?” he asked.
