The Arianyte Empire Decree #64
The following citizens are officially WANTED by the Arianyte Empire
for rebel activity: Karalevine Ruzz, Ardelle Dawson, Sylo Torres,
Jance Gallivan, Saris Sato, Ahren Johnson, and Trinity Monterey.

KARALEVIEN RUZZ
Grief wreaks havoc. It barrels within, infects your heart, and eats away at
the soul until you’re nothing but a vessel for its darkness. It’s like the
Grim Reaper in a way, ever watchful, always waiting. You can’t keep it at
bay, can’t stop it from seeping into your bones in the middle of the night,
when you wake in a cold sweat, realizing you’re just a human in a finite
world. And one day, you’ll be gone, too. So tragically ironic. Grief makes
you care too much yet also not at all. You’re concerned about doing good
on this planet, but all you seem to do is burn it all down due to the anguish
latched onto your heart.

Whatever happens to me, let it. I don’t care. All I want to do is feel
something other than the grief and pain and hatred that’s all consuming.
Consequences be damned.

That hollow ache of uncaring only grows as I wander the streets of
Zarmenia City. The thunder cracks violently against the downtown
buildings, its alien-built structures trembling with the rolling booms.
Lightning bounces off the slick, metallic buildings, spring rain walloping
the apartment structures in an endless assault. The eerie night sky ravages
this metropolis, taking no prisoners and no shit—much like me.

Dampness settles into the clothing beneath my hooded jacket. This is
what I get for not having Pacey here to recommend the proper coat for the
occasion. No longer do I dress for the citizens’ peering eyes. I’m not their
tyrant’s champion anymore.

I’m something else entirely.
Pouring rain taps on metallic bodies as they approach from around the
block, the clink of metal against metal reverberating as their marching
forms draw closer. They think they’ve caught me. How cute.
But I’ve chosen my mouse trap effectively, drawing a Nest of
SSPARROWs into a dark and hidden alleyway, an animated Arianyte
Empire propaganda sign flashing close by.

The amount of water cascading
over my lashes doesn’t block the sight of the dozen soldiers coming into
view. Removing my soaked hood, I feel them closing in. This time, they are
the prey, and I am the predator. Now, I will go after them with full force.
After I’ve been hunting Nests for the last two months, they are the ones who
should be afraid.

“H-Hands up!” a voice calls, half drowned out by the storm, half
distorted by the suit’s tech. “Turn around, now!”
I turn away from them.
“Your disruptor is trembling, Nest leader,” I call back, voice neutral yet
taunting as I side-glance the solitary red SSPARROW in a sea of cyan
soldiers.

The air smells of earth and rain and the promise of death.
“Put your hands up where we can see them! We will attack if provoked.”
I finally deign a glance over my shoulder at them. With a devilish smirk
on my face, of course.
