For three days, she had hunted him.
Not someone of great significance, merely a petty thief. But he had
dared to steal from Lord Bron Mathonwy, General of the Unseelie King.
And in the faerie courts, they did not take such transgressions lightly. Efia
knew this all too well; after all, she was Bron’s daughter, and the
consequences of her transgressions were carved upon her back.
Efia navigated the bustling night of the Unseelie court, her cloak
draping around her like a veil of pure darkness. Though her prey was skilled
at evading capture, he couldn’t outwit her for long.
Having uncovered his usual haunts and hiding spots, Efia was prepared
to end her hunt tonight. She tracked him through the crowded alleyways,
Efia observed his hurried steps, leading her to a secluded area. With the
cover of darkness and the revelry of the night providing a distraction, she
closed in on him.
He turned into a dimly lit alley, bumping his shoulder on the corner as
he did so. Efia descended from the rooftops, dropping herself directly in his
path. Startled, the fae froze, his eyes widening as he realized his
predicament.
Realised who exactly stood in front of him.
Efia saw the fear flicker in his gaze, mirrored by the turmoil within her
heart. Was this truly justice?
With a wave of her hand, the shadows peeled away from their
surroundings, taking shape and forming ominous figures behind him. A
dark stain started to form on the front of the male’s breeches, knowing what
was coming.
“Bron sends his regards,” Efia said coldly. Her hand flexed and her
shade lunged forward. Without mercy, it impaled through the fae’s chest
with a shard of solid blackness.
The fae choked, a drop of blood falling from the corner of his mouth
before the shadow receded, and his body crumpled to the ground.
Efia crouched over his body and claimed a trophy—a finger—as proof
of her accomplishment. She retreated into the night, leaving behind no trace
of her presence.
