A ll I had to say about this current mess was that our wee, newly awakened
phoenix had better be outside barbequing two really nasty Seelie bastards.
Reagan was apparently indestructible, but Oisin was not, and he was very
much bleeding all over the floor. He was like my brother, and I wasn’t losing
him.
I would have preferred getting some proper whiskey in Oisin before I
fished an iron bullet out of his gut, but he passed out, so that would have to
do as far as pain management. We’ll just keep the fact that I dug around in
his belly between us girls if he pulled through.
Unseelie trios were common. Not all of us were bonded to royalty as
bodyguards, but the military and police all had three bonded trios. There was
always one in the bunch who was the healer. That just happened to be me. I’d
been trained in removing bullets and saving lives. I’d prepared for this for
decades before Reagan was born.
Why did I sign up for this? I was supposed to be the cheeky part of this
trio who prevented the badness with humor. Whose idea was it to put
everyone’s lives in the hands of a hobgoblin? Oh, yeah… I volunteered for
this shit.
“The bullet is out, but we need to get him to the Unseelie realm. We can’t
portal there without him, and Tucker is still outside prowling for mercenaries.
You have to call Estrella. I can’t believe I’m the one saying this to you, but
this isn’t one of those situations where we try to fix things which have gone
ass up before we call her. You’re supposed to be the responsible one, Cyrus,”
I said.
I was still trying to stop the bleeding, and I hadn’t even looked up from
Oisin’s prone form.
“I’m not going to get mad that you’re concentrating on saving our
brother, but I already did. She’s on video.”
“Did you cover the whole indestructible phoenix thing, and holy shit,
phoenixes are real?”
“He led with that instead of telling me the three of you let Alastair get
close enough to murder her in the first place,” Estrella growled.
“Oh, good call on that one. If you aren’t sending anyone to cut my
beautiful balls off since she didn’t stay dead, we’ll need someone here for
Oisin because he definitely doesn’t have resurrection superpowers.”
“Now that her Fae side has awakened, is the bond complete? Can you feel
her now?” Estrella asked.
