“You don’t have to leave.” I’d never seen my twin brother Dean this
broken, and it took all I had in me not to cave. “The pack will adjust. We
just are experiencing growing pains…give it time.”
I wanted to believe him…believe that the pack would accept his
authority without question just as they did our father’s. And they would but
not until I was gone. As much as I hated that that was the case, it was.
The first born of the pack alpha is the heir apparent. It was how it had
been since the beginning of our history, and how it will be long after I leave
this world and meet the goddess. And in every single generation, that first
born had been an alpha, just as it should be.
Until our birth when everything went wrong and I was born first. An
omega can’t be an heir apparent, but also neither can a second born. We
were a cluster of couldn’t be.
Alpha-omega twins were rare…so rare, there hadn’t been any in my

father was pack alpha, which ours had been. And now that he was gone…it
was my brother’s turn to rule, and I refused to put him in danger by my
presence.

But that didn’t mean it wasn’t necessary.
“I asked Father once. He said there would be no problem and the pack
would adjust,” he finally murmured after a long silence. “He promised my
fears were for naught…I feared they would…that you would be taken from
me.”
Tears filled my eyes. Both of us saw this coming, and each of us
worked to protect the other.
“And they may or they may not come for you. But in the end, it doesn’t
matter who…they will come, and challenges will begin. You know it. I
know it. You have to do this. You have to break my bond to the pack.”
I stood back and removed my shirt. “There is no other way.” I turned,
giving him my cheek. “Please. I couldn’t live with myself if anything
happened to you because I stayed.”
He raised his hand, partially shifting. “I love you.”
His hand came down with one swipe, leaving my cheek raw and
bloody. “Anderson, formerly of the line Wolfe, you have been stripped of
your place in this pack. You no longer bear our name, our privilege, and our
