“Elliana! Over here!” Callie squeals from the country club bar.
“Hey babe,” I put on my best fake smile as she kisses both my cheeks,
passing me a glass of wine.
“What are you wearing?” She grimaces at me, judging me for still
being in my work clothes, which all in all, weren’t that bad. They just
weren’t fashionable enough for Callie who wore the most expensive
brands, her blonde hair always perfect and face caked in makeup.
Everything she owned would easily feed a town of starving children.
“You called me while I was at work, I didn’t have time to change,” I
shrug, sipping my drink.
“We have got to talk to your daddy about your work clothes,” she
sighs.
“You think he would listen? Daddy dearest likes me hidden in the
corner at work,” I roll my eyes.
“He’ll listen to me,” she says, batting her eyelashes, giggling. I didn’t
even want to think of the route she was going down, I knew she had a
thing for my dad, it just didn’t bear thinking of.
“Eww, Callie, he’s old enough to be your father too you know,
anyway, what did you call me for?” I ask, wanting to get out of here,
it was already too much for me today, I wasn’t in the mood to act
pretentious.
“So, Daddy’s having a party tomorrow night and he wanted me to ask
you and your father to come,” she says, I can see in her eyes that
something else was going on.
“Who are you trying to hook me up with now?” I sigh.
“You’ll love this one, he’s rich, incredibly handsome, he’s a little older
than you but that just means he knows what he’s doing,” she winks.
“Callie, how much older?” I ask.
“Details, details, just promise you’ll come tomorrow,” she says, laying
her freshly manicured hand on my arm.
“Fine, but no promises,” I sigh, knowing I wouldn’t have a choice, dad
would find out and drag me anyway.
“Yay! You can come to mine tomorrow morning, and we’ll get ready
together! Can’t wait! Babe, I have to go, I have a massage booked,
bye babes,” she kisses my cheeks with a giggle and totters off in her
huge heels.
I down the wine in my glass, asking the waiter for another.
“Tough day princess?” He snorts.
“You have no idea, I’m no princess, don’t give me that crap,” I
snapped.
I might look like a daddy’s girl and have to act like it most days, but
that wasn’t the real me. The real me would be sitting with her mum
right now, munching on junk food, having a dance party and enjoying
her night. But dad ruined every chance of that, kicking my mum out
when I was just twelve years old, ruining her life and mine.
