I wasn’t really listening to what Aidyn was saying to Dux, because I knew
better than to tune in to those hushed conversations… now. I’d heard things
I couldn’t unhear. But I didn’t have to hear the conversation, or even look in
their direction to actually feel the love coming off the two, and when Dux
gently kissed Aidyn’s lips, and then bent to kiss Stalik on his little head,
making the baby giggle, my chest ached with envy.
“I want that,” I sighed as my tribute walked away from where we were
sitting outside in the huge yard, drinking coffee, and watching Julian as he
directed the teenagers.
Aidyn’s head snapped around in my direction. “Dux?” he demanded.
“Laet, I love you, man, but I’ll skin you right out of your dragon scales.”
“What?” I squeaked, shaking my head. “No. No offense. I adore Dux,
but I definitely don’t think of him that way.” He was more like a brother, or
a cousin, or something that was family, and definitely not someone I wanted
to take to bed, no matter how handsome the man was. “I want love. I want
kisses and snuggles and babies.”
Aidyn was smirking as Julian walked up, frowning as he plopped next
to me at the table, swinging little Taysha around and off his hip to sit on his
lap. Stalik immediately reached for her, and the two babies giggled as they
swung meaty fists at each other.
“What did I just walk up on?” Julian asked after a moment, a soft smile
on his face as Taysha grabbed the older baby’s fist, drawing it to her mouth
for a nibble.
“Laet is ready for love,” Aidyn was more than happy to supply,
smirking.
Julian’s eyes widened in excitement, a huge smile blooming on his face
as he sat forward in his chair. “Really? So, you’re finally going to make
your move on Graves.”
What a terrible time to take a drink of my coffee. Apparently, Stae and
Pull didn’t think so. They seemed to find the experience quite comical, both
making their own sputtering sounds to match.
“What?” I demanded, clearing my throat and giving a quick look
around, while wiping the spit and coffee from my face. I was relieved to
find there were only a few people close enough to hear that, and they
seemed engrossed in their own stuff. “Why would you say that?”
Cringing at the mess, I stood, grabbing some napkins out of the
dispenser in the center, before dabbing at the rascals who tried to steal them
from me. Apparently, they liked being splattered with coffee spittle.
“Oh,” Julian said, watching me work with as equally innocent eyes as
Stalik and Taysha. “I thought that was what we were talking about.”
Aidyn stretched in his chair, probably enjoying my and Julian’s
discomfort. “Not yet. We hadn’t made it to that part yet.”
