O R I E N
When the King sends Orien to complete a job, she works swiftly
and with expert accuracy. Her reputation is excellent – she has never failed
a single task assigned to her, leaving her the only person the King trusted to
fulfill the requirements of the job.
Her face is set like stone as she wields one of her many daggers with perfect
precision to peel the flesh off the nobleman’s face who sits in front of her.
She tied his body to an old, ragged wooden chair she found next to the front
door of his house. Mud or boar shit coat the bottoms of each wooden leg,
but it is not her place to question the man’s living conditions.
Just like it is not her place to find out the name of the poor bastard she
currently dissects. His time would not have been cut short if he had been
more intelligent about who he considered his friends or who he voiced his
concerns about the King’s ruling to.
The man’s blood curdling screams fill the rundown wood shack, and to
Orien, they sound like a perfect melody, harmonizing just right with her
skillful dagger work. The weight of the metal in her hand is as light as a
feather, the black hilt specifically molded to fit her hand.
The blade is no longer silver but crimson, the ornate floral design along the
shaft concealed under what she considers to be a rather decent visage for a
man his age.
Orien has worked on removing the gentleman’s face for several minutes
now, and he has yet to pass out. It is one thing she finds surprising. Most of
the time she can barely begin her work before her victim passes out from
fear.
Her black pants and jacket now shine from the blood soaking through them,
and her hands finally fill with warmth. The walk here from the Stone Castle
was unforgiving this time of year. The Kingdom of Univier is currently in
the late cold season which can cause the wind to become so rough it plants
a chill deep in anyone’s bones. Luckily, the blood soaking her hands is just
what she needs to raise her core temperature back to normal.
Just as she flays the last bit of skin from his forehead, the screams turn into
raspy sobs. The sound does not bother her but she has not found much that
does these days; everything seems to run together in an endless loop. The
feeling can be tiring at times, even for someone as shut off from herself as
Orien.
It is not a surprise that Orien’s face has not moved an inch during her
meticulous procedure of skinning the man’s flesh from the structure of his
face. The sounds of agony have become the only thing that is consistent in
her life now. As she holds up the wet slippery flap of skin, examining her
work, Orien remains unbothered with anything else as she makes sure her
work is nothing less than exact.
