Lyss
“Can you believe how big it is?”
“That’s what she said.”
My best friend, Gia, rolled her eyes at our roommate, Julie, while Clara
and I snickered behind them. Our Uber had just dropped us off at the house
owned by Sons of Poseidon, one of the hottest bands to emerge in the past
couple of years. We had no idea what the parking situation would be like
when we left, but seeing it now, we were glad we didn’t drive. It would
have been a pain in the ass to park two blocks away, if not more.
I linked my arm through Gia’s and kept us walking forward. “Yes, Gia,
it’s huge. What do you expect from freaking rock stars?”
“I can’t believe we got an invite to a Sons of Poseidon party,” Clara
squealed.
“You didn’t get an invitation, Gia did,” I reminded her. Gia gave my
arm a quick squeeze.
“The invite said I could bring a friend or two, so you guys are as invited
as I am,” she said.
“Who knew call-in radio competitions were real and not just a scam to
get people’s hopes up,” Julie said.
“Gia did,” I sang.
We stood at the end of a short line to get in. A burly man with black
pants and a tight black t-shirt with “security” written across the chest stood
at the bottom of the steps to the front door.
“Invite,” he demanded with a bored expression.
Gia showed him her phone with the invite on it.
He stared at the screen before saying, “It says a friend or two. You have
three.”
Gia’s smile fell. “I didn’t think it was literal. I thought it meant I
couldn’t bring a bunch of people. I only brought three.”
He shrugged. “Sorry, it says it right there. I don’t make the rules.”
“Come on, you can make an exception, can’t you?” Clara smiled and
twirled her hair. She literally twirled a section of hair around her finger. I
groaned inwardly with second-hand embarrassment.
“I’ll just head home,” I said before things got any more awkward.
“Lyss, you can’t leave me here alone,” Gia protested.
“You have Julie and Clara,” I said.
Gia arched a perfectly shaped brow at me. My bestie was a
cosmetologist, and she looked the part every second of the day. Even when
she first woke up in the morning with no makeup and bed hair, she looked
like a model.
“Can I have you ladies move to the side while you figure this out?” The
security guy asked.
I looked behind us at the line that was forming, and we moved over to
finish our discussion.
