Bill Wise hunted the rabbit in red, and his best friend Jaime followed.
Bill found his mother slumbering on the couch, like he did every
morning. His primary contact with his mom took place in these moments,
saying good-bye to a passed-out shell of a human. Bill groaned at the sight
of the empty vodka bottle on the coffee table, but he bent over and kissed
her as he always did, even if she never realized it or felt it only in a dream.
He adjusted the blanket around her and tucked a pillow more firmly
underneath her head. Drool drizzled out of her mouth, and one arm dangled
to the floor. Bill took her arm and wrapped it around her chest.
“Bye, Mom.”
She smacked her lips, mumbling the unintelligible nonsense of a dream.
Since he didn’t have a car of his own, he waited for the school bus. He
took out his phone and clicked on the bookmarked story Rabbit in Red that
he and Jaime had discovered a few weeks ago. The contest would launch
tonight, and they only needed to get through this one school day before
their lives would change forever. He hoped.
Bill had the story memorized, but he read it over again. He didn’t want to
miss a single detail.
Eccentric Horror Producer to Host Fright Fest Contest
Hollywood’s strangest horror producer, Jay Bell, is making himself public
for the first time since opening Rabbit in Red Studios over a decade ago.
Known for the creepy demands on his staff, directors and actors, Bell, or JB
as he is more often called, first made news when taking a group of actors
and film staff to an allegedly haunted location in the middle of Germany
before filming his first feature film, Haunted Mind. For his second movie,
The Devil in You, JB flew the entire cast and crew to an old African village,
where members supposedly had once been possessed by demons. JB made
the cast and crew participate in these and a variety of other hands-on
experiences to make his films as genuinely real and terrifying as possible.
He even requires his workers to sign a non-disclosure agreement.
The media have asked JB for numerous comments, but he’s been strictly
quiet, never appearing on screen himself.
Until now.
Now the Rabbit in Red producer has launched a website that introduces a
special challenge for horror fans. The headline on JB’s website reads:
FOLLOW THE RABBIT IN RED TO A GREAT REWARD FOR THOSE
WITH THE MOST KNOWLEDGE OF HORROR. The specific details on
the website tell all lovers of horror to register online and await notification
from the rabbit.
A test begins on Friday night, September 25th
. Participants will need to
download the Rabbit in Red app on their smartphones or tablets to play.
The contest will continue all weekend and involves a series of riddles that
