Felicity Chase sat at the front counter of the spa and greeted the last client
of the day. After she checked the woman in, she sent an alert to the
massage therapist to let her know her client had arrived. Within seconds,
the therapist came to get her client and take her to the room. The lobby was
once again quiet.
Felicity owned five boutiques in East Haven, along the New Jersey
shoreline. She couldn’t cut hair or even dye it. Nor could she give a mani,
pedi or a Brazilian. But she saw a need for a one-stop-shop business venture
and launched her first boutique, Babe, within six months of coming up with
the idea. Now with five locations under her belt, anyone in the beauty
industry flocked to work with her.
The phone rang and Felicity answered. “Babe, how can we make your
day amazing?” she said into the receiver. It didn’t matter which Babe location
you called, anyone at any of the front desks would be able to help you. That
was Felicity’s goal when she opened her second location, to make everything
as seamless as possible for the client.
“Can I get an appointment for a full set on the thirteenth?”
Felicity grimaced. The day before Valentine’s Day was busy. Like, busy
busy. Most of the appointments had been booked for months, with existing
clients getting first dibs.
“Do you care which location?”
“No, I don’t. I think my boyfriend is going to propose on Valentine’s and
I want my nails perfect for the photos.”
Felicity rolled her eyes. Proposing on Valentine’s Day was such a cliché,
she hated it, yet always reacted enthusiastically when anyone told her their
proposal story and how their ring was in the champagne or buried in a piece
of cake.
