Hunter
“How much do you have riding on this game?” Hudson asks with a
grimace.
I glance away from the television. “What’s it to you?”
He shrugs. “Morbid curiosity. I just want to know how quickly you’re
going to blow through your trust fund.”
Hawk sips his beer and laughs with our youngest brother. “Hunter may
be a reckless sports better, but no way could he burn through that much
money.”
“Says the guy who now has double what we do.” Hudson shakes his
head, clearly pissed that Hawk was able to somehow finagle even more
money out of our rich-as-all-shit grandfather.
“I’m sure you’ll have the same opportunity one day,” Hawk says. “I’m
thirty. Could be he’s waiting until you’re both older.”
Hudson snorts. “I’m not going to be as gullible as you were, brother,
betting your entire inheritance on a harebrained bribe.”
“Like you even need the money, Doctor McQuaid,” I spew.
“How much do you think OB/GYNs make? I can promise you it doesn’t
even come close to the interest our trust funds are earning.”
“Then why do it?” I ask.
“Pussy.” Hawk chuckles. “He does it for pussy. Why else?”
“Fuck you.” Hud swats him on the back of the head. “You speak in front
of your kid that way?”
“Rivi’s eight months old. She doesn’t understand a goddamn thing.
Besides, do you see her here?”
Hudson nods to the door. “As a matter of fact…”
Hawk’s face lights up like a Christmas tree when Addison Calloway—
his new fiancée and sister to our archenemies—walks in pushing his daughter
in a stroller. He hops up as if his ass is on fire, strides over, and kisses them
both on the cheek.
I roll my eyes. My older brother drank the Kool-Aid and now he’s just
like every other subjugated cocksmacked bonehead in this sleepy town.
Lissa, the bartender here at Donovan’s Pub, drops everything and races
over to Addison. She raises her hand and they both squeal at an octave so
high I’m surprised it doesn’t shatter the ornate mirror behind the bar. It takes
a minute, but I finally understand. The size of the rock on Lissa’s left hand
must make it hard for her to pour drinks.
“So that dickwad Lucas Montana proposed. What’s this, his fourth or
fifth trip down the aisle?”
Hud thinks on it. “No, man, he never made it down the aisle with the
other three.”
I laugh. “Look at her. How in the hell does she think this time will be
any different? Maybe her pussy tastes like Gran Patrón.”
Hudson spits whiskey all over the table.
Hawk returns without Addison, who’s now engrossed in conversation
with four other women fawning over Lissa’s ring.
“How much do you think Montana dropped on the rock?” I ask Hawk.
“More than you spent on Addison’s?”
“Addy’s ring is plenty big enough for her,” he says dismissively. “I’ve
