Alan Brock hid in the darkness, peering through the window
of the old Victorian home at the elderly woman. She shuffled
along in her black nightgown, her bony feet sliding along the
floor, a coffee cup in hand while her cats weaved between her

Alan made a point to snatch up the eviction notice before
she saw it taped to their front door. It might as well have been
a giant sign that said “FAILURE OF A HUSBAND” with
flashing neon lights. If he didn’t find a way to get money soon,
they’d lose their apartment and end up living on the streets
with a baby on the way. He couldn’t let that happen.
