‘Erm, Soph did you mean to upload this video?’ Polly’s brow wrinkled, her
eyes concentrating on her phone as she sat on the floor, her back to the sofa,
a tiny black ball of a kitten curled quietly in her lap. Mya reached over,
moving Polly’s red hair out of the way to look at her screen.

‘Have you just poked yourself in the eye with the mascara wand?’ Mya
started to laugh. ‘Soph, this is internet gold!’
Sophie carefully scooted across to them as fast as she could from her
position sat on the floor with another kitten – all white except for a black
patch on its face – pawing at her leggings.

‘What are you talking about? Show me.’ Reaching over, one hand
carefully cradling the kitten on her legs, Sophie shuffled until she could see
the screen as well.

‘Wait, no that’s not right, that can’t be right.’ Sophie snatched the phone
from Polly’s hand. ‘No, no, no. How has this happened?’ Sophie asked no
one in particular as she scanned the video.

Polly looked nervously towards Mya. Mya grinned and shrugged,
returning her attention to the third tuxedo-marked kitten who was playing
with the gold bangles that hung on her wrist, alternately trying to swipe at
them and bite them.

‘Right, I’ve sorted everybody out downstairs, how are my foster kids and
babysitters?’ Paige asked as she strolled into her front room, her hoody on
back to front as the fourth and final kitten poked it’s head out of her hood,
surveying the scene in front of it. ‘Aww they’re having a great time playing
on the floor with you guys. So time for a catch-up. Wait, what’s the
problem?’
Sophie hadn’t moved. The phone was still clutched in her hand, and she
was leaning slightly towards Polly. But when she did finally look up from
the phone, her face was pale behind the foundation she had expertly applied
and her brown eyes were wide in shock.

‘I’ve uploaded the wrong bloody video,’ she whispered. ‘I can’t believe it.
I must have checked a million times. I’ve always been so paranoid. What
have I done? How could I have been so careless?’
There was a moment or two of silence.
‘Well, it’s done now. What’s the worst thing on it?’ Paige asked with a
smirk, as she too sat on the floor that was partially covered in newspaper so
that the kittens could play and pee freely.

‘It’s not funny. It’s completely unprofessional. It must be the non-edited
video, the one where I poke myself in the eye with the mascara wand and
run around for five minutes swearing like my dad when he’s arguing with
the sat nav!’ Sophie groaned.

‘Yeah but so what? It’s just a video on social media. Nobody was naked,
nobody was injured, apart from you. Is there the slightest chance you’re
overreacting?’ Mya asked. There was a sucking of teeth sound as Polly
winced, already anticipating Sophie’s reaction.
