Melody pressed the thumbtack through the center of her scrawled flier
and stepped back from the bulletin board at INK, the tattoo shop where
she managed the books. It was one of many jobs she handled.
Stuffing her hands in her pockets, she scowled, remembering the last time
she’d done this; it was before Jason stumbled into her life.
Three years of wreckage later it was time for her to find her footing and
way forward–out of the debt his no-good ass had left her in. His bills
became her problem, and if she was going to get anywhere she didn’t need
it following her negatively for the next ten years.
“Everything good, Mel?” Noah pointed to her note. “Penny and Zander
didn’t keep you busy enough this summer and then over winter break? Mia
said you were the best spare parent she could’ve asked for.”
She turned and looked up at her boss, even at a little over five-foot-seven
she had to crane her neck to look up at him. “Yeah, the enrollment was low
this quarter so Mrs. Parks didn’t need me. I know it’ll change with each
quarter, but…”
“Hope doesn’t pay the bills in the meantime.”
“No, it doesn’t.” Mel turned her nose up at the board, scrutinizing her
words. “I don’t sound like I’m selling myself, right?” She was selling a
canvas, not her body.
“Oh, you’ll get your pick of perves. That’s why you’re not leaving that
here. Let Lexi know because there are at least three dominants who are
looking for a rope model. Oh, I think Sandy wanted artistic wax photos for
her gallery final. At least the club has membership requirements.”
“That’s a polite way of saying standards.”
“Background checks, Melody, then yes.” Since he got married a few
months ago he’d become her big brother.
“If I’m seen fluttering around the club, Claudia is going to ask if I want to
be their third–again.”
“She’s beginning to make me wonder if she doesn’t want to be alone with
her dom or if he’s just boring. Lidia must have loved the corset piercings
though; she’s coming in for the laces down the back of her other leg in a
few days.”
“I guess the results were worth the fit she pitched.”
Mel remembered when she came in for the first set, she was sure the
entire block did too that night.
“No, no, you forgot about that Sandy girl that Jordan had last year. The
bakery complained to the landlord.” Noah bumped her shoulder and smiled.
“Hey, you free now?”
“Oh no, you’re not stabbing me twelve times for something that’ll only
last a month or two tops. No friggin’ way.”
He laughed, shaking his head. “I wouldn’t dream of it. I’d love to get my
hands on your skin. I have a design that needs to be drawn out and silicone
won’t cut it.” Noah put his arm over her shoulder, pulling her note down
from the board and stuffing it in his pocket, leaving no room for further
discussion.
