PAIGE

“Oh my God!” Ava cried out, pushing through the crowds in the
terminal to wrap her arms around me. “I can’t believe you’re
finally here!” She looked at me with sparkling eyes as she held me at arm’s
length.
“It’s been way too long,” I said and hugged her again. “I’m still mad at
you for moving, by the way.”
Ava laughed and shook her head, her shoulder-length dark hair swaying.
“Yeah, you keep telling me that.”
Noah appeared with Warner on his hip.
“Hey, Paige,” he said and hugged me with his free arm. I pinched
Warner’s cheeks.

“Look how big you’re getting! What are they feeding you?”
Warner giggled and kicked his legs so that Noah would put him down,
but Noah held tight.
“Don’t put him down,” Ava said gravely.
“I got him,” Noah agreed and offered to take my rolling suitcase with his
free hand.

“Seriously,” Ava said, shaking her head. “He’s at that age where he just
runs, and he’s so small and so quick, there’s no way I can follow through
the crowds.”
I laughed. “He’s adorable.”

We walked through LAX to the parking area, where Ava took Warner to
strap him into his car seat while Noah wrestled my bags into the car.
It had been six months since Noah and Ava had moved to LA. They’d
decided to break away from Solomon, Forger, and Riggs, and Noah had
come here to open his own law firm instead. The Cavaliers’ legacy and the
pressure on the families to conform and follow in their fathers’ footsteps
wasn’t something they wanted Warner to suffer under.
“Do you miss home?” I asked Ava when we got into the sleek black car
Noah drove.

“I don’t miss Seattle,” Ava admitted. “The weather here is incredible, we
barely have any rain. Can you believe it?”
I giggled and shook my head. In Seattle, rain was a given.
“I miss the convenience of knowing where everything is, though. I’m
getting better now, knowing where a couple of things are, but it’s going to
take time to really settle. Of course, I miss the people too.”
