Present Day – October 2023
Finn could never go back to who he was before. That night at the
lighthouse haunted him for over a year.
A flash of light.
The sound of a gun firing.
The smell of salt air.
Shaky breaths.
Blood pooling on the ground.

The moon being eclipsed by the dark clouds in the night sky.
Every time it was the same dream.
He was the only one that was on the lighthouse’s platform. It would feel
as if he were in another world; another time and place where no one had
died or gotten shot.
And where no one was out to kill him.
Finn would stand on the platform, looking out into the ocean. Then, he
would hear a gunshot.
He would turn around and see a hooded figure with a gun in their hands.
Finn would look down and see blood pooling out of his stomach, with a
bullet lodged in it.

The figure would take off their hood, revealing it to be Theo. Or his
identical twin, Brandon.
Even though one was his lover, and the other was a crazed murderer,
Finn could never separate them in his dream.
They were one and the same.
Then, Theo would keep firing shots into Finn; one by one. He would step
closer with each shot, and Finn would stand motionless as if he couldn’t
move as more blood pooled out of him.

Eventually, Theo would reach him and would smirk, saying Finn
deserved everything that was coming to him. And with a final step, he
would push Finn over the ledge of the lighthouse.
Finn would fall backward, the ruthless force of gravity pulling him down.
Even though he knew what was coming next; the betrayal would still
sting.

His eyes would go blurry with tears as he fell.
He would always wake up before he hit the ground.
Always.
This time, he woke up on the ground next to his bed; blankets and
pillows left in disarray on his bed and floor.
Finn heard footsteps rushing to his door. He already knew who was
coming. He looked up from the cold floor and saw the shadowy figure of
Jada step into his room, her eyes wide with worry.
“Finn, are you okay?” she asked, kneeling down next to him as he got up
from the floor.

“I’m fine. It’s nothing new,” Finn replied, shaking his head and rubbing
at his eyes, still processing that he had somehow wound up on the floor.
That was a first.

“Did you have a nightmare again?”
“Yeah, the one I always have,” Finn said, not elaborating.
He knew he didn’t have to say anything else.
He talked to Jada about his dreams endlessly. She was there at the
lighthouse; she knew what happened. If anything, she should be the one
having the nightmares about getting shot. Brandon had shot her himself.
There was a scar on her stomach to prove it.

“Do you need anything? Like some water or something?” she asked, eyes
still concerned, but they didn’t have the same intensity as before after she
realized he seemed fine.
