I PULLED OPEN the door to the Blue Moon Tavern and stepped inside.
While New Fane, Montana, boasted more sheep than people, it still managed
to support a couple of nice bars, along with a few dives. This was one of the
nicer places.

Tonight, it was more crowded than I expected and far more casual than I
was dressed for. I could blame Peyton for that. My best friend had sent me
out on this adventure in a dress that, as far as I was concerned, exposed more
of my curves than I was comfortable with revealing in public.
“It’s hot, Sadie. Lighten up. You want them to notice you, and you want
to stand out in the crowd, not be a shrinking wallflower.”
We’d been in my room, a mound of dresses she’d brought over piled on
my bed, some of them actually wearable. But she’d sent me out in this darkblue wrap dress, complete with towering heels and a tiny clutch purse, which
ironically, I was now clutching tightly.

Breathe, Sadie… Just keep breathing. It’s going to be okay. It’s only a
date, not a lifelong commitment. It’s just a date… just a date. If I said it
enough, maybe I’d believe it.

I ventured farther into the bar and grudgingly had to admit Peyton might
have been right about the dress. A few guys were giving me long,
appreciative looks, most smiling at me as I walked by. The nerves that had
threatened to make me walk right back out the door faded a little. But the
reason I was here still had my heart racing and my palms sweaty, making for
a rather unlovely combination for a blind date.

None of the guys seemed more interested in just looking, though, so I
crossed them off as not being my date—dates.
Yes, dates. Plural. This wasn’t just a blind date with one guy; it was a
blind date with two guys. I was still trying to get my head around how this
was going to work. Again, it was all Peyton’s doing. She had recently met the
love of her life, Alex, who just happened to have two close friends who were
looking to meet someone. Instead of choosing who to set me up with, Alex
suggested I just meet them both, and his friends, strangely enough, not only
agreed, but they thought it was a great idea. I wasn’t sure what I had gotten
myself into.

I thought back to that unusual conversation with my best friend.
“You can’t be serious? You let Alex set me up with two guys? On the
same date?”
Peyton smiled at me in a way that made me feel we were co-conspirators
of some big secret. But if she knew what this secret was, she wasn’t letting
me in on it.

“I am, I have, and I did.” She grinned. “It’s going to be okay, Sadie.
They’re really good guys.”
“I’m sure they are… It’s just… it’s a little awkward.”
She giggled, the bracelets on her wrist clanging together, the soft musical
clink of gold accenting her words. “I promise you it won’t be awkward at all.
