Claire heard the door to the underground lab open, accompanied by the
sound of voices, and her heart started to thud uncomfortably against her
ribs. The twins heard the door as well and stiffened, their small bodies going
rigid. The smiles she had managed to coax out of them disappeared, and her
heart ached as they quickly stuffed the small cards they had been using to
play a game into the storage locker. They were so young to have been forced
to learn such discipline.
“But I don’t want her,” she heard Dr. Pagalan, the scientist in charge of the
laboratory, protest. “I want an older female.”
“I know, Scholar Pagalan,” the other voice said smoothly, and Claire
recognized it. Kwan, the alien bastard who had stolen her from Earth and sold
her to Pagalan for his experiments. “This is simply temporary,” he continued.
“I have another buyer lined up for her, but he couldn’t be here in time for the
sale.”
“That’s not my problem.”
“I know, but unfortunately, there are rumors that the Patrol is interested in
our activities. We had to close down the main auction site, and I need a place
for her to stay.”
“Why me? I’m a very busy male.”
“I understand, but you’re the only one I trust to, err, return her in the same
condition. You may not value her virginity, but her buyer is quite insistent
that it remain intact.”
Claire shivered as the twins crept closer, curling against her on either side. As
far as she could tell, despite his interest in reproduction, Pagalan had no
interest at all in the actual act of sex. A lack for which she had given thanks
many times.
“I don’t know,” Pagalan muttered. “I dislike having my routine disturbed.”
“She won’t be any trouble. Will you, girl?”
A soft cry followed Kwan’s words, and Claire clenched her fists. That
bastard.
“And if you do me this favor, I promise that I will provide you with your
preferred type of female on my next trip. At a discount.”
That was sure to appeal to the scientist. He was extremely tight-fisted.
“Very well,” Dr. Pagalan said begrudgingly as the inner door to their room
opened. “In here, girl. The older female will tell you what is expected.”
A young alien female was pushed through the open door. She had soft golden
fur and definite feline characteristics, but despite the strange features, Claire
could see that she was extremely pretty. The girl immediately put her back to
the wall, managing to look scared and defiant at the same time.
