Everyone hopes for the day that their dreams become a reality. But actually
living out that dream can look a lot different than originally expected.
Prince Liam had aspired to be the king of Wistonia for nearly his whole
life, but it had always felt more like a far-off dream since he was the spare
rather than the firstborn heir. That is, until his older brother, Barrett, had
abdicated the throne to marry his true love, Jules, a few weeks ago. Then, his
dream finally seemed within reach.
But his brother had been training to be king of Wistonia for practically his
entire life. He, on the other hand, had always made sarcastic jokes about how
his father should pass the throne to him. He had never truly studied or
prepared for the role, and now that Barrett had abdicated and the throne
would actually be passed to him, he was panicking. He wasn’t even close to
being ready to ascend the throne.
As much as he tried to avoid reading the tabloids, he’d seen enough to
know that the media had labeled him “The Royal Heartbreaker.” His
reputation as a playboy prince, jumping from one relationship to the next,
was mostly fabricated. He was a flirt. And he wasn’t too proud to admit that.
Liam
But most of the pictures of him in the media were with random women
who would sidle up next to him at events right before the cameras arrived. In
his real dating life, he supposed there was some truth to what the media said.
He was never photographed with the same woman more than once. But the
truth behind him being a one-date wonder lay with the vow he had made to
himself four years ago—that he would never let himself fall in love again.
Not after what happened with Mila.
He didn’t want to spend enough time with someone that feelings could
develop and he could get hurt. Liam also didn’t want to hurt someone else
through his inability to ever love them. He was doing them a favor by not
asking them on another date and setting them up for actual heartbreak. Yet,
girls always seemed to go to the media, saying he broke their hearts, making
their one encounter out to be more than it was.
He was disheartened by the person the media portrayed him to be,
especially when compared to his brother, who they referred to as the “Perfect
Prince.” Will the people ever see me through the same lens as they see him?
He shook off the negative thoughts. The media might depict him in a
negative manner, but at least he knew who he really was.
I can only hope the Wistonian people will accept me as their king. I’ll do
everything I can to earn the trust of my people before I ascend the throne.
