LINA
Lina Davis had been in love with James Wilkins since she can
remember – probably since she was born. He was two years older
than her, and he seemed to always look at her like a little sister.
James never seemed to mind when she followed him around like a lost puppy
dog.
She had been fascinated with the fact that he was a bear shifter. They
used to go out in the woods and he would shift so he could give her rides.
Who needed a pony when they had a James?
He graduated from high school and joined the Army. His father was
always bragging about what his son was doing, and Lina hung on every word.
Every time James was deployed, she held her breath and just prayed that he
would make it out of whatever mission he was undertaking alive.
She hadn’t seen him for two years when he came home on leave. The boy
who had left came back as a man who took her breath away. He was six feet
tall and his arms were huge. His shirt could barely contain his muscled chest.
The little bit of scruff on his face gave him a risqué look, and Lina knew
that she was in trouble the second that she laid eyes on him. Her heart
pounded a million miles an hour and her breath caught in her throat. Her
insides felt as though they had turned into a big pile of jello.
She seemed to have caught his attention, too. Her long brown hair
reached to her nicely rounded butt. Her blue eyes were the color of a clear
summer’s sky. Her body had filled out nicely. Her breasts had grown in
practically overnight and were perfect for her five-foot two-inch frame.
Lina remembered the day he came home every time she closed her eyes.
She didn’t even know that he was due back, so she had been surprised when
she saw him unloading his father’s car.
She had just gotten home from her last day of school. Graduation was in
two days, and she had won a full scholarship to the University of Alaska in
Anchorage. She was going to get her bachelor’s degree in nursing and then
continue working toward a graduate degree. She thought that she couldn’t
wait to get out of Snow Haven, the sleepy little town about forty-five minutes
outside of Juneau. But after seeing James, she thought that she could wait a
while.
James looked at her and looked away as though he had just seen a
stranger. Then, he slowly looked back at the smiling Lina. He dropped his
bags in shock and walked over to her.
“Lina?” he asked incredulously.
“Welcome home, James,” she said.
“You’re all grown up,” he replied.
“Well, that does tend to happen to us all,” she told him, smiling.
He pulled her into a huge bear hug and said, “It is so good to see you.”
“You’re looking pretty good yourself,” Lina said. “
