LILITH

Dreary Shadows sounded as terrible as it looked. It was overcast,
gloomy, and dreary as fuck. There was even an old, abandoned castle
up the road from my new house, adding to the spooky charm. It was
one of the few properties on my street.

I scowled as I glanced around the front entrance of Dreary Shadows
Academy, wondering why the fuck my mother had sent me here. I was in my
final year of high school, and this was not how I’d seen it playing out.
I was angry at her for throwing me aside the moment she’d found herself
a rich new husband, his kids replacing me instantly. Not that she gave a shit
about me before that, either.

Mostly, I was angry with my father for killing himself and leaving me
behind to fend for myself. He knew Mom was a piece of shit, and she proved
it when she’d remarried before the one-year anniversary of his death.
I lifted my bag over my shoulders and headed to the office to grab my
schedule, feeling eyes burning into me before I’d even made it to the door. I
glanced over my shoulder, my gaze clashing with a pair of steel-gray eyes.
The guy was tall, muscular with a lean frame, and he had a filthy sneer on his
face, as if he thought I was trash.

I couldn’t lie, he was attractive, but if he thought I would allow him to
look at me like that when he didn’t even know me, he had another thing
coming. Sure, I looked out of place here, but thanks to my new rich daddy
that I’d met once, I was now part of the educated elite in this prissy shit hole.
I went to shout at him to fuck off, but a broad guy with hazel brown hair
stepped in front of me, an amused smirk on his face. “Hey, newbie. You
trying to get yourself killed on your first day?”

I snorted, glancing over his shoulder to find the guy with the gray eyes
had vanished. “I’m shaking in my boots.”
“Grab your schedule and I’ll show you around. They usually assign
someone to give you a tour, so I might as well offer my services,” he grinned,
reaching behind me to open the door. “Ladies first.”
“Men only do that to look at women’s asses, you know?” I replied
bluntly, his grin widening.

“Oh, good. So you know the drill?”
“You’re a dick. Has anyone told you that?” I scowled, walking inside
with him hot on my heels.
“It might have been mentioned to me a time or two. I’m Ezra Fowler.”
“Good for you.”
