REMY

The cool porcelain feels like heaven against my flushed cheek while
the soft brush of a calloused thumb strums along the back of my neck. It’s
soothing in a way I reluctantly admit I need right now. My entire world just
shifted, and I’m not coping well at all.
Or maybe puking just makes me irritable.

Yeah, I’m definitely going to kill them.
“If they ever make a movie about my life,” I rasp, my voice echoing
inside the toilet bowl, “I will come back from the grave and stab every last
one of you if this gets even a vague mention.”

Trip chuckles behind me, his large hands shifting to pull my hair back
and secure it on the top of my head with something he got from somewhere.
Even though I’m too focused on the way my stomach is revolting to worry
about the logistics, my stabby side rears up right along with the bile in my
belly at the thought of how much practice he’s had to do a girl’s hair with
such efficiency.

“What’s the big deal? You’re carrying our baby. It happens.”
With the little energy I have left, I rise up just enough to shoot him a
glare over my shoulder. “You are way too calm about this. How are you not
freaking out?”

His thumb brushes my cheek as his soft lips briefly connect with my
nose. When he pulls back, he adjusts his body until he’s sitting on the tile,
facing me. I know I reek of death and blood, but he doesn’t seem to mind.

“Because I fucking love you, Remy. I can’t wait to see you round with
our baby. I’m oddly excited for midnight feedings and those weird burritoblanket swaddle things. In fact, I’m going to get my sister to teach me how
to do it, so I’ll be better at it than the others.” He gets this far-off smile on
his face, like he’s picturing Saint’s pout when he realizes he doesn’t know a
damn thing about swaddles…or babies for that matter. When his gaze meets
mine, excitement shines back at me. “I’m looking forward to being a daddy,
and I just know you’re going to make one hell of a mother, baby girl.”
My bottom lip starts to quiver, and I don’t bother fighting back the tears
that overflow my faulty eyelids and roll down my cheeks.
