Present Day
“We could still make this work, baby girl, if you wanted to.” His soft,
sandalwood scent invades my senses, mixed with leather and sex, the
thrumming beat of the music pulsing through me as I shrug on my sweater
and grab my purse.
“I’m moving to a different state, Theo. It’s impractical, and I don’t want
to sully what we’ve had with an open relationship.” He’s been good to me.
A satisfying Dominant, but we’re nothing more than good sex,
complementary kinks, and friendship.
“Who said anything about an open relationship? I don’t share, baby
girl.”
“And I don’t want to remain tethered to Boston. I’m sorry.” I reach up,
stroking the stubble on his chin. “It’s been fun, Sir, but this is where we say
goodbye.”
I press my lips to his before turning on my heel and leaving the club
that’s been my oasis here in Boston for the past four years. I found myself
within these walls—my voice as a submissive, and I would be lying if I said
I wouldn’t miss it, but for me, this isn’t about love. It never has been.
I make my way through the club, saying my goodbyes to friends, fellow
subs, and Doms—the people who have shaped me into the confident
submissive I’ve become since I entered the lifestyle. In truth, it’s my friends
I’ll miss. Sure, I can find another club in New York and a Dom to satisfy
my sexual appetite, but friends are more difficult to come by. People who
understand and don’t judge. Who truly see me for who I am.
I am accepted and respected.
As I say my final goodbyes, Theo strides toward me, tension rolling off
him in waves. I brace myself for whatever he has to say, but he simply
hands me a sleek black card with an elegant V embossed on one side and
nothing on the other.
“What’s this?” I say as I turn it over in my hand.
“I’ll text you the address. It’s the most exclusive club in Manhattan, and
it’s relatively new. They’ll get you settled and introduce you to the right
people in our lifestyle.”
“Thank you.”
“Just don’t go spreading it around. It’s invitation only.”
“But…” He cuts me off as my expression tightens. Surely, he sees the
problem.
“I know a guy at the club. Give them my name when you decide to
explore. Consider it a going away present. I’m really going to miss you
around here, baby girl.”
“I’ll miss you too.” I give him a quick squeeze before making my way
to the exit, slipping the card into my pocket as I brace myself for the lonely
streets, turning my back on my safe haven.
I shed a few tears as I hail a cab and head for home, where my best
friend is waiting to help me pack up my life and embark on a new
adventure. Butterflies of excitement swarm my stomach as I take in the
familiar skyline one last time, and suddenly, they feel an awful lot like
dread.
