The mighty raptor wheeled in the dark skies above Kos
like a shattered meteorite, trailing rage and despair in
his wake.
He was on the brink of breaking apart, drowning in a sea of
anguish.
The agony of being wrenched from one soul whom he’d
adored and who had helped bring meaning to his purpose was
almost too much to bear.
Woe had befallen him; sorrow coursed in streams over
him, causing him to tremble, and he shook like a husk in the
wind.

Even the sky had lost its colour and vibrancy. Its light had
turned to static as if a canopy of wretchedness had descended
and cast a shadow over everything.
His spirit searched for an anchor.
But none was to be found.
So he pushed even higher.

To where the thunderclouds roared with turbulent air, a
wild gale, and icy particles.
He unfurled his pinions wider and let the elements
pummel him.
Held aloft by the updraughts and pitched down in
downdraughts, his winged body was tossed around. He was
forced to hold his breath to keep from drowning in the
thunderstorm.

The rain and verglas hurt as they hit with the impact of
tiny sharpened arrows, the sleeting moisture soaking through
his slick plumage.
He dodged the mortal-sized ice rocks in a deadly dance.
His plumes picked up enough electrons from the ionised
atmosphere to cause lightning bolts to chase after him,
seeking to shred him apart.

The fast-flowing, narrow, meandering jet streams in the
high ether buffeted him.
The air thinned even more, and he pulled oxygen from his
dwindling rachís stores.
For a wild moment, he wondered what would happen if he
let go of his ka and kemí and permitted his anguish to end.

‘Sana’a!’ he roared.
Not a soul answered.
Only the tempest howled back at him.
For HE was the storm.
He laughed, a guttural bellow riled with such pain it stirred
up the heavens.

The ache in his chest was picked up and churned in the
towering cumulonimbus thunderhead that swirled around
him, taking up the entirety of the atmosphere.
That’s when his hawkstone ripped.
Its sheer power pushed the typhoon high enough into the
stratosphere, spreading outwards and producing a colossal
anvil cloud.

He was so oblivious to the energy generated by his
affliction that he lost his course as he sunk into the cyclone.
His tears mingled in with the heavy and fierce descending
precipitation.

Far below, on Katánē’s surface, torrential deluge lashed
the mountains and gullies. Waves of water rushed through
gorges, and ice pellets battered the ground.
Lightning arced through valleys, followed by destructive
winds, deafening thunder, and a threatening tornado’s wild
finger.

Killen, fokkin’ stop! You’re causing a freakin’ supercell
thunderstorm. It’s tracking close to Karth and Kos, and if that
tornado you’re stirring up touches down, it’ll rip with devastating
bluster. Your squalling is already inciting giant-to-monster
hailstones and violent rainfall in the south, and it’s coming
straight for us.
