It was the first day of the NHL holiday break and Roman Graves was on his
couch. He was not wearing a suit. He was not at a fancy holiday party or
charity event. He did not have a beautiful model on his arm. In fact, this
marked the first time since he was drafted to the LA Knights that he wasn’t
going to any lavish parties, holiday feasts or intimate family gatherings. No,
this holiday break he was wearing his classic Adidas joggers, his feet were
bare, and his Instagram feed was a constant reminder of why he was
‘grounded’ for the next three days.
After the news broke about his sex scandal, Roman’s PR team called
an emergency meeting to discuss how they would manage the situation. The
situation being several pictures circulating the internet of Roman asleep in
bed, butt ass naked with a smiling blonde next to him. These kinds of things
did not sit well with the NHL. The girl in the picture, whose name he didn’t
even remember, was now demanding a settlement due to ‘emotional
distress’.
In his mind, the amazing sex they had and the multiple orgasms he
gave her should have been payment enough. Right?
Apparently not for this woman. She said he never called her the day
after. Of course he never called the day after, he didn’t even have her
fucking number. He didn’t have her number because he didn’t even
remember her name. He didn’t remember her name because he made it clear
that it was a hookup, nothing more, nothing less. It had been two consenting
adults, enjoying each other’s company for a night. It was not unheard of.
People all over the world were having one-night stands at the same exact
moment as Roman and the blonde. The only difference was that Roman was
a professional hockey player, and that made him a target for gold diggers, or
as they were known in the hockey world, puck bunnies.
These women were nothing new to Roman. He always tried to play it
safe. He always wore protection when he fucked them. He always got
undeniable consent and he always made sure they knew–without any
doubt– that this would not lead to anything outside of sex. He didn’t date.
He didn’t commit. His life was busy, and his focus was on the Stanley Cup.
But his luck had run out, and his sexual appetite had finally caught up
to him. So now, he waited. He waited alone over the holiday break for his
PR team to call him with the details of the press conference he would have
to do to smooth things over.
The NHL liked to have a clean reputation. Good men played for the
NHL, and the ones who weren’t always good–the ones like Roman–were
expected to keep their indiscretions under wraps and out of the headlines.
They were selling hockey, not sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll.
