HARLEY
My brothers were going to kill him.
I had not spent the last three years pining over Chase Sinclair for it
to all go up in flames this fast. We’d sent an end date—graduation. Now
that I had graduated and everything was finally falling into place, my
brothers were trying to ruin it all.
It didn’t matter that they’d shown up because they were concerned for
me. My plan had always been law school. I was going to change the world.
I’d even made a deal with the devil—my father, Owen Wright—to pay for
the whole thing in exchange for his silence. Then, somehow, he’d found out
that I’d withdrawn from Harvard Law and outed me to my four brothers.
Wrights and Sinclairs didn’t mix.
Not after everything the Sinclairs had done to try to sabotage us.
And yet Chase and I worked.
We had from day one. But it had been our ten-year age gap, my nineteen
years to his twenty-nine, that had scared him off more than anything my
brothers would do. And now that I was a little older, I appreciated that he’d
given me the time and space I needed to make my own decision.
And I’d chosen him.
I had chosen him.
So maybe it was me who was going to kill my brothers if they didn’t
back the fuck off.
“Stop!” I shouted.
Of course, no one stopped.
Chase was stuck in the doorframe of my bedroom with a bloody nose.
Whitton and Julian held back Jordan as Weston fought to climb over the lot
of them to get to Chase. They were like feral beasts. Fucking hell.
“I said, fucking stop!” I said, barreling into my brothers.
We were a fucked up lot. My twin brothers, Whitt and West, had grown
up in Seattle, not knowing that we were the secret family to our father.
Definitely not that he had another family, Jordan and Julian, across the
border in Vancouver. It was the best part about all of us moving to Lubbock,
Texas, where the Wright Construction headquarters were. Now, we were a
proper family.
Unfortunately, we were acting like a proper family.
All fucked up. All the time.
One of the benefits of having older brothers was that I could fight with
the best of them. When I lowered my shoulder and popped them out of the
way, Julian released an oof, and they shifted just enough for me to get
through.
“I love her!” Chase shouted over the din of my brothers’ rage. He
straightened, dropping his hand that was now covered in blood. “I love her,
all right?”
My heart stopped at those words. Those three little words. We hadn’t
used them earlier when we made our declaration. He had said that he was
mine, that it had always been me, that I was his girlfriend. All things I’d
wanted to hear for so long. But not the L-word.
