QUINN
YOU’D THINK after being closeted for so many years while playing
professional hockey, I’d be a lot smoother at this whole covert thing, but I’m
not. Like I came out and suddenly forgot the act of subtlety. My entire
demeanor is screaming up to no good, with my hoodie up, hands in my
pockets, and head down as I walk from the Starbucks parking lot in Fort Erie
to my destination. My secret destination.
No one can know what I’m doing. No one on the team, team
management, or anyone else who works for Buffalo. Hence hopping the
border into Canada.
I could talk to the guys in the Collective about it, I guess, but it’s
embarrassing. And Asher already gives me enough shit for it. He would
never tattle on me, but I don’t want to give him fresh ammunition when it
comes to getting outside attention for my … groin area.
I know I’m being paranoid when I turn to make sure no one is following
me, but it feels like I’m breaking the law. If anyone found out …
I cringe as I look up at the sign that hangs above the door, zeroing in on
one word. Massage.
I feel dirty.
Shameful.
But I push my way inside anyway. Once I’m behind the safety of the
darkened windows, I don’t lower my hoodie. When I say no one can
recognize me here, I mean it.
“Hello, Mr. Quinn,” the always-smiling Chandra greets me. “He’ll be
right with you.”
“How many times have I told you to call me Asher?”
Did I use Asher’s name for my bookings? Absofuckinglutely. I’m in
Canada and paying outright; they don’t need to know I’m not really Asher
Quinn. Or that Asher Quinn doesn’t exist, but my name is Ayri, and if you
utter that name anywhere in the Buffalo Niagara area, people immediately
know who you’re talking about.
Go sports.
“Right. Sorry. Asher.”
I tip my head to her and go sit on one of the seats where I can put my
back to the door.
Overkill, maybe, but no one coming in can see my face that way.
My heart thuds as I wait for what feels like an eternity. I’m not even
early. If anything, I’m late by a couple of minutes for my appointment so I
can go straight in, get it done, and then get out as fast as I can.
The door to my guy’s room opens, and he stands there in athleticwear.
He’s maybe thirty and conventionally attractive. “Ready for you.” He smiles,
and I follow him into the room. “Pants off. Lie down.”
I strip my sweats off and lie on my back on the table.
The thing is, there’s a reason I come here and put myself through all this
anxiety, and it has everything to do with this guy’s hands. The way he works
me over. The way he’s able to ease the ache between my legs.
He’s worth every penny
